The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu has been suspended. Sources close to the Presidential Panel grilling Magu confirmed the latest development although there is no official statement. The Justice Ayo Salami-led investigative panel is questioning Magu over allegations of corruption. The panel, on Monday, grilled Magu till almost midnight. President Muhammadu Buhari has reappointed Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta for a second term of five years as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). Senate President Ahmad Lawan disclosed this at plenary when he read Buhari’s letter of request for Danbatta’s screening and confirmation as EVC/CEO of NCC for a second term. Lawmakers in the Ondo State House of Assembly have served impeachment notice on the state Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi. Ajayi is accused of gross misconduct. He resigned from the the ruling APC and defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but has insisted that he would not resign his position as deputy governor. The Senate on Tuesday received a formal request for the confirmation of 11 nominees as Judges of the Federal High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Magu had testified before a panel looking into allegations levelled against him by Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN). The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 575 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Monday. The 575 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 29286. The NCDC also announced the discharge of 163 patients from isolation centers across the country with nine new deaths reported. The Federal Government on Monday announced the date for the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). At a briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja, Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba said the examination will hold from August 4th to September 5th 2020.
