The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Friday that the total public debt portfolio of the Federal and State Governments as of March 31 stood at N28.63 trillion. The NBS made this known in its Nigerian domestic and foreign debt report released in Abuja. The bureau said that further disaggregation of Nigeria’s total public debt showed that N9.99 trillion which represented 34.89 per cent was external. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 575 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Friday. The 575 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 31323. The NCDC also announced the discharge of 249 patients from isolation centers across the country with 25 new deaths reported. Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law the 10.8 trillion naira revised 2020 budget passed by lawmakers last month on Friday. National Assembly in June passed the budget, which was revised as part of an effort by the government to tackle the new coronavirus pandemic and low oil prices. Pay-Tv operator, StarTimes Nigeria has been slammed by Nigerians for increasing the prices of their various packages, despite promising not to do so earlier in the year. StarTimes had in a post on Twitter on Friday announced that effective 1 August, the price of its Basic Bouquet will increase from N1,300 to N1,700, while its Classic Bouquet has been reviewed upwards from N1,900 to N2,500. The Lagos State Government on Friday announced the discharge of 50 COVID-19 patients from isolation centres across the state. Chief Executive of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Mr. Babatunde Irukera, has stated that the pay-as-you-go billing model in telecommunications is not necessarily applicable to pay television.
