Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri, on Thursday convicted and sentenced one Nuhu Lawan to prison for job scam. The convict was prosecuted by the Maiduguri zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on amended one-count charge of obtaining by false pretence. US President Donald Trump has denied allegations that he sexually assaulted a former model in New York in 1997. Amy Dorris told the UK’s Guardian newspaper that Mr Trump groped various parts of her body and forcibly kissed her as she came out of a bathroom at the US Open tennis tournament. Pro-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Dr. Wale Babalakin has resigned accusing the Visitation Panel to the university of bias. Babalakin went into a squabble with Vice Chancellor Prof. Toyin Ogundipe following which he “sacked” the VC. But the government reversed the action and asked both of them to vacate office for a visitation panel to examine the situation. The panel sat for two weeks during which it took evidence from all the parties in the dispute and submitted its report on Thursday. Nigerians have vented their anger at the newly introduced Self Certification forms which the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has mandated all citizens to fill out. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 131 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Thursday. The 131 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 56,735. The NCDC also announced the discharge of 220 patients from isolation centers across the country with two new deaths reported. Former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has separated from his fourth wife, Precious Chikwendu. President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law the Nigeria Police Bill, 2020. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina in a statement reported the signing of the bill into law. The President, in a memo dated September 16, 2020, communicated his assent to the Bill to the National Assembly, through the Clerk of the legislature. The Act repeals the Police Act Cap. P19.
