Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state has been re-elected for a second term in office on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Obaseki scored the highest votes in Saturday’s Edo State governorship election. The result of the election held in all Edo’s 18 local governments was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday in Benin, the Edo state capital. Mr Obaseki polled 314,676 votes to defeat his main rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who had 223,619 votes. The Emir of Zazzau and Chairman, Kaduna State Council of Traditional Ruler, Alhaji Shehu Idris, is dead. A traditional title holder, Wazirin Zazzau, Alhaji Ibrahim Aminu confirmed the death Sunday afternoon. He said the Emir died in Kaduna on his way to London Hospital. Son of the Emir, Aminu Shehu Idris, said his father passed on at the age of 84 after a protracted illness. Alhaji Shehu Idris, the 18th Fulani Emir of Zazzau who was appointed on 15th February, 1975, spent 45 years on the throne. Liverpool have completed the signing of Portugal forward Diogo Jota from Wolves in a £41m deal that could rise to £45m with add-ons. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 189 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Saturday. The 189 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 57,145.
