Canada has designated the far-right US group Proud Boys as a terrorist entity. Public Safety Minister Bill Blair said the decision was influenced by the group’s “pivotal role” in the 6 January riots at the Capitol in Washington, DC. The designation allows the Proud Boys’ assets to be frozen, and members of the groups could be charged with terrorist offences if they commit violent acts. The group is far-right, all-male and anti-immigrant, and has a history of violent political confrontations. A 10-year-old girl who was excited to finally be tall enough to ride down an 83-metre-long waterslide was tragically found unconscious with no heartbeat by the time she got to the bottom of the slide. Nine days after London Eisenbeis went down the slide, she was declared dead. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed rumours that it plans to pick former President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate in the 2023 presidential election. There were unconfirmed reports some Northern Governors were working hard to ensure that the former President gets the APC ticket. The trial of a suspected warlord accused of atrocities during Liberia’s civil war begins in Finland on Wednesday, the first such case to be partly heard on Liberian soil. Gibril Massaquoi, a Sierra Leonean living in Finland since 2008, is accused of murder, aggravated war crimes and aggravated crimes against humanity during the West African country’s internal conflict a generation ago. A former governorship candidate in Imo state, Uche Nwosu, has countered Pastor Tunde Bakare, over the chances of the Southeast to produce the next President of Igbo extraction. Nwosu who was responding to a recent statement credited to the fiery cleric, insisted that no zone in the country can single handedly produce the President of the country without the input of other zones. The Lagos State Sexual Offences Court, Ikeja, has sentenced one Nura Asumoge to 25 years imprisonment for the defilement of a 13-year old minor, after he had pleaded guilty to the one-count charge during his arraignment by the Lagos State Government. The Prosecuting Counsel, Mrs. Arinola Momoh-Ayonkanmbi, of the State Ministry Justice, stated that Nura Asumoge confessed to having sent the unsuspecting underaged victim on an errand on 3rd April 2018. On her return the defendant forcefully had sexual intercourse with the victim, threatening her to refrain from informing anyone afterwards. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the establishment of additional 20 private universities across the country. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, revealed this while briefing the State House correspondents on the outcome of the Council meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Wednesday.
