The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to completing the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery, saying it would be functional within 18 months. “Port Harcourt Refinery will work, and certainly within the next 18 months,” the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva said in an interview aired on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. Kidnappers of Oba Tajudeen Omotayo, the traditional ruler of Imope town, in Ogun State have demanded for a ransom of N200 million to set him free. Adesola Omotayo, the wife of the abducted monarch confirmed the ransom demand in an interview with BBC Yoruba. She said the gunmen who used the phone of the abducted traditional ruler to contact the family spoke in pidgin. Supporters of Yoruba rights activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho on Sunday stormed Agege in Lagos State to canvass support and solidarity for establishment of the Yoruba Nation. Igboho had said he and those who believe in his cause will always defend the Yoruba race from aggressors. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has approved the release and reduction of the sentences of four inmates in the state’s correctional centres. The Lagos State Attorney-General, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), said yesterday that the approval was in line with the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy. One of the inmates was ordered released while the jail sentences of the remaining three were reduced. Two of the beneficiaries will now serve life imprisonment as against the death sentence hanging on their necks while another had his life imprisonment sentence reduced to 18 years. Four suspected cybercriminals ‘Yahoo boys’ were killed in an accident when their SUV rammed into a stationary heavy duty vehicle. Four of the five passengers died on the spot. According to an eye witness, the accident occurred around 4am in the early hours of Saturday at Ekiugbo road along the East/West road, Ughelli North local area of Delta state. The Northern State’s Governors Forum has condemned the attack on the convoy of Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom. It described it as a disturbing development, which must be investigated thoroughly.
