Niger State Police Command have confirmed that 26 bodies have been recovered after a boat with 150 passengers capsized on Wednesday in Tungan Mairakumi village of Burgo Local Government Area of the state. The acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali on Thursday lamented that last year’s #EndSARS protests weakened the capacity of the police to battle insecurity. According to him, besides dampening the morale of officers and men, the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), which was the original target of the protesters, “created a vacuum” in the operations of the police. The Nasarawa State Police Command on Thursday paraded Yusuf Mada, Special Adviser on Infrastructure to Governor Abdullahi Sule and 16 others over vandalization of railway tracks and slippers in Lafia and Keana Local Government Areas of the state. The Police Command in Bayelsa on Thursday confirmed the release of Mr Peter Igbifa, President of Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) who went missing on Tuesday while travelling to Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Igbifa was on his way to Abuja on May 25, for a scheduled meeting with the Coordinator of Presidential Amnesty Office, retired Col. Zinedine Zidane has resigned as manager from Real Madrid for the second time in his coaching career. Major General Farouk Yahaya has been appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the new Chief of Army Staff. Yahaya succeeds Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru, who died last Friday in an Air Force plane crash. Yahaya’ s appointment was announced on Thursday by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, acting Director Defence Information. Prior to his appointment, Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army. He is also the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counter Terrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East, code named Operation HADIN KAI.
