The Taliban’s march through northern Afghanistan gained momentum overnight with the capture of several districts from fleeing Afghan forces, several hundred of whom fled across the border into Tajikistan, officials said Sunday. Gunmen have attacked the police headquarters in Akwa Ibom State, leaving at least three officers severely injured. President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a get-well message to the Head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis as he heads in for a scheduled surgery of the colon. At least five persons have been killed and several others, injured following an accident involving a gas tanker in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The accident occurred around 9:00 am on Sunday at a popular herbs market in the Bode area of the city as a result of a brake failure from the tanker which was fully loaded with domestic gas.
