A Muslim cleric, Sheik Yusuf Amzat-Salam, 35, his wife and four children were killed by hoodlums in the early hours of Tuesday in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun. The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, said on Tuesday that policemen would soon be deployed to their communities of origin to enhance community policing. The IGP told a meeting in Lokoja that the bulk of the 150,000 policemen to be recruited over the next five years would serve in their respective communities of origin. Death toll in the attack at Epogi community in the Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, has risen to 27, the Niger State Emergency Management Agency said Tuesday. The director-general of the agency, Ibrahim Inga, told reporters in Minna that 21 people were killed during the attack, while three bodies were recovered from a river. Mr. Inga said three other victims died at the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, bringing the total number of deaths to 27.
