A 45-year-old Alfa, Adeleke Isiaka was on Tuesday arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command, for allegedly defrauding one Ismail Abdul of N8.5m under the pretence of conducting prayers for him. Men of the Special Fraud Unit, SFU, who arrested Isiaka, charged the 45-year-old on a three count of conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Several people are reported missing after a seven-storey building collapsed on Monday night in an eastern suburb of the Kenyan capital Nairobi. The Kenya Red Cross tweeted that response teams were at the scene, in the Kware Pipeline Embakasi area. The Star newspaper said dozens of people had been evacuated moments before the collapse. Witnesses told the paper that the building had been condemned after cracks appeared in its walls. Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has told Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi west, that he “can’t use violence to revive his drowning political career”. In a statement by Petra Onyegbule, his spokesperson, the governor also blamed Melaye for the death of a protester in the state. Melaye had claimed he escaped assassination after unknown gunmen attacked him as he was rounding off his speech at a rally in front of Kogi State Polytechnic. The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in Oyo State says it rescued 134 children, who were victims of child trafficking between January and May. An Assistant Comptroller at the command, Mr Folusho Akintola, disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen after a stakeholders’ conference organised by the Justice, Development and Peace Commission in Ibadan on Tuesday. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has disclosed that active telecommunication subscribers reduced from 152,467,198 in March, 2017 to 149,249,510 in the month of April. The telecommunications industry regulator made this known in its Monthly Subscriber/Operator Data obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos. It said that the active telecommunications service customers declined by 3,217,688 in April, as against 152,467,198 in March, 2017. According to the data, 148,774,015 of the 149,249,510 active numbers subscribed to the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network services.
