US country music singer Don Williams – who enjoyed great success with his easy-going singing style – has died aged 78 after a short illness. Williams began his solo career in 1971, amassing 17 number one country hits. His songs such as Gypsy Woman and Tulsa Time, were covered by singers such as Eric Clapton and Pete Townshend. Former Nigeria president, Olusegun Obasanjo has urged President Faure Gnassingbe of Togo to step down following anti-government protests which have continued for three days. The protest which began with a call for Gnassingbe to resign has turned violent as clashes between opposition supporters and police have escalated. The Security Committee of Gagarawa Local Government Council of Jigawa, has banned Fulani and herdsmen from holding local traditional weddings and other festivities at nights.
