The fifth edition of GOtv Boxing NextGen Search (GOtv Boxing NextGen 5) kicks off in Ilorin, capital of Kwara State, on Thursday. The programme, which ends on Friday, will hold at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Kwara State Stadium Complex. The minority leader of the Senate, Eyinnaya Abaribe, has accused the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the judiciary of contributing to the removal of Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). Leadership reports that Abaribe said this at one of the breakout sections of the ongoing 59th NBA annual national conference in Lagos. Torrential rains pounded south-western Japan on Wednesday, leaving one person dead while around 810,000 residents were ordered to evacuate, local media reported. A man was confirmed dead after he was found in a car that was washed away by floodwaters in the city of Takeo on the island of Kyushu, broadcaster NHK reported, citing local police. Two more people were feared dead in the cities of Saga and Yame on Kyushu, according to NHK. The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, refused to grant the motion filed by Mr Omoyele Sowore, Convener, #RevolutionNow protests, challenging his detention for 45 days by the Department of State Security (DSS). Justice Nkeonye Maya, who declined all applications by Counsel to Sowore, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, sent the case back to Justice Taiwo Taiwo for further hearing. The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, fixed Sept. 11 to hear a  a motion filed by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), asking the court to vacate the exparte order it gave on July 26 proscribing its activities in the country. The Gombe Government has spent N300 million in 35 communities for intervention projects in 11 local government areas of the state. Mr Abubakar Kumo, the General Manager, Gombe State Agency for Community and Social Development (GMCSDA) told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Gombe. Kumo said that the intervention projects were in the health, water, education, rural electrification and environment sectors. MultiChoice Nigeria has announced the 20 students selected for the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) Academy Class of 2019. The students were announced after a two-month selection process in Nigeria and Ghana. The 20 aspiring filmmakers representing West Africa will begin their 12-month training programme at the MTF Academy in Lagos in October. The government has asked the Queen to suspend Parliament just days after MPs return to work in September – and only a few weeks before the Brexit deadline. Boris Johnson said a Queen’s Speech would take place after the suspension, on 14 October, to outline his “very exciting agenda”.
