The British Airline Pilots’ Association (Balpa) on Monday commenced a 48-hour strike in a dispute overpay. Balpa said almost all British Airways flights, totalling hundreds, were cancelled and an estimated 195,000 customers would be affected. The association said 8.50 a.m. scheduled flights were cancelled, and passengers would be offered a refund or a later flight. The strike has been labelled one of the biggest in the airline’s history. A government statement, on Monday announced that the late former president of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe will be buried on Sept. 15. Mugabe, 95, died on Sept. 6 in Singapore where he had been receiving medical treatment since April. He ruled Zimbabwe for nearly four decades until November 2017 when he resigned. According to the memo to diplomats accredited to Harare, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said a funeral service for Mugabe will be held on Saturday in the National Sports Stadium, before his burial on Sunday. The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal will deliver judgment in the petition by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar challenging President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the February 23 general election. Chairman of the five-man panel, Justice Mohammed Garba had while reserving the judgment on August 21 stated that the date would be communicated to all parties in the matter. The Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kyari, has disclosed that the recent closure of Nigeria’s borders has significantly led to a reduction in the smuggling of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, out of Nigeria. The illegal act was done by smugglers who carried the commodity to as far as Burkina Faso, Mali and Cote d’Ivoire. Three political parties  have challengied the declaration of Emeka Ihedioha as the governor of Imo state. They have adopted their final written addresses before the governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting in Owerri. Nigerian filmmaker, Kachi Benson has won an award of best ‘virtual reality story’ at the 76th Venice International Film Festival with his short film  ‘Daughters of Chibok’ The film narrates the story of April 2014, abduction of 276 female students from Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. Following government negotiations with the terrorists, 107 of them were eventually released. But 112 remain missing. A former Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, who is currently on a self-exile, said he contemplated suicide due to alleged persecution he was subjected to after he left office in 2015. Adoke also listed Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu; and Senator Ali Ndume as some of those behind his current ordeals and persecution.
