Veteran US Democratic congressman Elijah Cummings, who was heavily involved with the Trump impeachment inquiry, has died at the age of 68. His office said he had died as a result of “longstanding health challenges”. The Nigerian Army has changed the name of one of its annual training exercises code-named, “Exercise Egwu Eke” to “Exercise Atilogwu Udo”. The annual training exercise commenced in 2016 and has consistently recorded remarkable successes since its introduction. The exercise, which covers the South East region of the country, is designed to combat criminal activities including kidnappings, armed robbery, inter-cult and communal clashes among other sundry crimes. A Brexit deal has been agreed between UK and EU negotiating teams before a meeting of European leaders in Brussels. President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of a mother and her child as a result of an oil tanker accident in Onitsha, Anambra. The President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Dr Ayuba Wabba, has described as mere speculation, reports of an agreement to a 20 per cent and 13.5 per cent consequential adjustments for workers on Grade Levels 7-14 and 15-17 respectively. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission said yesterday it recovered over 200 property including plazas, bungalows and mansions, from suspected corrupt individuals in the last eight months. The Chairman of the Commission, Professor Bolaji Owasanoye,  who made the disclosure at a meeting with the management of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), boasted that the agency was course to recover additional 100 houses from corrupt elements and would increase the number of seized assets to 300 before the end of the year.
