About 20 soldiers were killed and nearly 1,000 people made homeless in a Boko Haram attack on a town in northeastern Nigeria, two residents and a military source said on Wednesday. The militants entered Monguno in Borno state posing as a convoy of soldiers on the evening of Jan. 7, the sources told Reuters. They then attacked troops already inside the town, destroying at least 750 homes in the process. The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has denied given approval to former boxing champion, Bash Ali to stage a “World Guinness Book of Record” fight in Nigeria. The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed an appeal filed by candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2019 governorship election in Abia State, Alex Otti, which sought to unseat Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Delivering a lead judgement, Justice Hamiru Sanusi held that Otti’s appeal lacked merit and was liable for dismissal. A man identified as Nelson has been arraigned before the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja for stabbing his father, Sunday Oamen, to death with a broken bottle. Patience Oamen, a hairdresser, on Tuesday told the court how his brother stabbed their father.
