Justice A.T Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, on Friday, 17 January, 2020 sentenced one Tarila Ebizimor to seven years imprisonment for obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of N4.000.000.00 (Four Million Naira). The convict, a supervisor in the Security Department of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC was prosecuted by the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a four-count charge. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested six internet fraud suspects that includes 22-year-old Sadiku Muniru Dolapo who has been on the Commission’s wanted list. The Nigerian Government has taken delivery of two fighter helicopters to boost the ongoing fight against insurgency and banditry in the country. The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, disclosed this when he briefed State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting of Security Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday. Justice Jide Falola of the Osun State High Court in Ikirun on Friday sentenced two men to death by hanging for murder. Falola in his judgment, said the prosecution counsel proved his case against the convicts, Orisakunle Abiodun, 21; and Opadokun Olayinka, 29, beyond reasonable doubt for the murder of one Matthew Adeoye in Ikirun. The judge sentenced the convicts to five years imprisonment for conspiracy and death by hanging for murder. Stella Olowofoyekun, 35, was on Friday remanded in a correctional centre by a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing her neighbour to death with a broken bottle. The defendant, who is a petty trader, is facing a count charge of murder, but her plea was not taken. Chief Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere, ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Correctional Center, Lagos, pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). An Islamic group in Nigeria has described the regional security outfit in Southwest of Nigeria, Amotekun,  as one that has symptom of Christianisation and Islamophobia. In a statement on Friday signed by director of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Professor Ishaq Akintola, the Islamic group suggested that Amotekun (The Leopard) might have been conceived to protect Christians in the region. A group of US-based Imo indigenes, the Mbano National Assembly (MNA), has reacted to Tuesday’s Supreme Court verdict that effected a change of government in its home state. The judgment replaced Mr Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party with Sen. Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress as governor, almost eight months after the former assumed the office.
