The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a 60-year-old fish-farmer, Muyiwa Otuyalo, for attempting to smuggle in substance believed to be hard drug for his son, Damilola Otuyalo, who is currently in the custody of the Commission’s Ibadan zonal office. He has been on the wanted list of the International Police, Interpol, before the petition was filed at the EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office. Ms. Laetitia Naankang Dagan, an Assistant Director at the State House, Abuja was on Monday night assassinated by unknown assailants in her apartment. The Permanent Secretary, State House, Abuja, Jalal Arabi, disclosed this on Tuesday, saying that the 47-year Dagan from Plateau State, worked in her office on Monday till 8pm, but by 11pm, she was gruesomely murdered in her apartment by unknown persons. Eighty four people died in road traffic crashes in Edo, Delta and Anambra from October to December last year. Mr Kehinde Adeleye, Zonal Commanding Officer of Zone Rs 5 of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) made the disclosure in an interview with NAN in Benin on Tuesday. Zone Rs 5 of the FRSC comprises Edo, Delta and Anambra. Adeleye said that within the period, 150 road traffic crashes were recorded in the zone with 303 people sustaining various degrees of injuries. Nigeria’s annual inflation rose to 12.13% in January, highest level in nearly two years, according to data released by National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday, as prices increased across all categories measured. Inflation stood at 12.13% in January, compared with 11.98% in December, marking the fifth straight month of increases. Nigeria closed parts of its borders in August to fight smuggling of rice and other goods, but economists say the move has driven inflation. Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and its Joint Venture Partners have disbursed $360 million toward the Ogoniland Clean-Up project as recommended by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The Joint Venture (JV) Partners are Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Total Exploration and Production of Nigeria (TEPNG) and Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC).
