Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state has said that “powers that be” are attempting to deprive Igbos of the chance to produce Nigeria’s president in 2023.
The governor made the comment while hosting the leadership of Nzuko Umunna, a pan-Igbo political organisation, in his Umuobiakwa palatial country residence.
He encouraged Ndigbo to be unified as a people and collaboratively advance the people’s cause. He stated that the time had come for Ndigbo to be deliberate in their strategic stance in Nigeria.
“There was a deliberate attempt by powers that be to deny Ndigbo the opportunity to superintend over the affairs of the country,” Ikpeazu said.
“To leverage on their unity, compromise and understanding to craft and construct a pathway towards their political liberation.”
The delegation’s leader, Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu, stated that their visit to the Governor was to further debate the future of Ndigbo with him.
He stated that it was time for Ndigbo to unite and talk as one people.
“Nzuko Umunna is a political but not partisan organisation,” said the former National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, South East.
He praised Ikpeazu for his bravery in congratulating Abia Governor-elect Dr Alex Otti on his victory and encouraged other candidates not to distract him with court battles.
