The Nigerian Army has reported the surrender of two high-ranking terrorist leaders to Operation HADIN KAI troops in Borno State, stating that the individuals have supplied crucial intelligence anticipated to support current efforts against insurgents in the North-East.
The announcement of the development was made on Tuesday through a statement from the acting media information officer at Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Mohammed Goni.
The Army reports that the two commanders gave themselves up to Sector 2 troops in Geidam on July 4, 2026, and reached Maiduguri at roughly 7:30 p.m. on July 5, where they are now in military detention.
The statement recognized the captured suspects as Munzirs in the terrorist hierarchy, stating that they are undergoing “thorough profiling, debriefing, and intelligence exploitation.”
It noted that preliminary interrogation showed that the pair “occupied influential positions and possessed extensive knowledge of the group’s operational activities, command arrangements, and logistics architecture.”
The Army added that “initial intelligence obtained from the debriefing has provided valuable insights into the terrorists’ operational methods, sustainment mechanisms, and support networks,” noting that the information would “significantly enhance ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at locating, disrupting, and dismantling remaining terrorist enclaves across the North East Theatre.”
Characterizing the capitulation as a further strike against the insurgents, the military noted that this event “marks another significant defeat for the terrorist group and reinforces the success of the ongoing offensive actions carried out by forces of Operation HADIN KAI.”
The statement indicates that ongoing land and air offensives, supported by improved intelligence operations, have persistently limited the movement of terrorists, diminished their combat effectiveness, and disrupted their command frameworks.
The Army stated that “terrorist leaders and fighters are finding continued resistance untenable, compelling them to abandon the insurgency and surrender to troops,” adding that the latest surrender “further reinforces the growing disintegration of the terrorist organization.”
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining the assault against insurgents, asserting that military forces would persist in “leveraging actionable intelligence, enhancing offensive actions, and collaborating closely with pertinent partners to eradicate the terrorist menace and achieve lasting peace, security, and stability throughout the North East.”
The capitulation occurs as the armed forces advance their counter-insurgency efforts in the North-East, with Operation HADIN KAI ramping up intelligence-driven operations focused on eliminating the last terrorist strongholds in the area.
