The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won all the chairmanship and councillorship positions in the August 29, 2026, local government elections in Anambra State.
Genevieve Osakwe, the Chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, released the results at the ANSIEC office in Awka on Sunday.
According to Osakwe, the APGA won all 21 chairperson seats, and party candidates gained councillorship positions in the 21 local government areas, as declared at the ward level.
Osakwe declared the election peaceful and fair, saying the commission meticulously gathered and analysed the results to guarantee there were no errors.
Although the ruling APGA was the only party to field candidates in 20 of the state’s 21 LGAs, the Young Progressives Party did so in only one, Anambra East.
Aside from the YPP, which had candidates in Anambra East LGA, no other opposition political party participated in the election.
None of the opposing candidates, political parties, or their representatives were present at the ANSIEC office when the results were announced.
The ANSIEC chairman, who announced the scores and names of the APGA candidates one by one, declared them winners and returned them elected after receiving the most votes.
She said, “All the candidates of APGA have been officially declared winners as councillors and Executive Council Chairmen-elects.
“The elections took place across 362 electoral wards and 21 local government areas (LGAs) in Anambra State, and it was conducted in a peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible manner in line with the state electoral laws and guidelines.”
She applauded the people of Anambra State for turning out in large numbers to exercise their civic rights, as well as security services for maintaining peace and order throughout the event.
Osakwe said, “This is to affirm the result of the chairmanship and councillorship election held on August 29, 2026. The commission carefully collated and analysed the results to ensure that there were no mistakes.

“Election held at all the polling units across Anambra State on August 29, and it was free, fair and credible.”
