The re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has come under legal challenge as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed separate petitions before the state governorship election petition tribunal.
The petitions were displayed on the notice board of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, formally commencing the legal process against the outcome of the August 15 governorship election.
The tribunal secretary, Pefe Belemore, confirmed that petitions challenging the election had been filed.
The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by its candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against Adeleke, Accord and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The PDP petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and Accord.
The display of the petitions is expected to pave the way for the service of relevant legal processes on the parties and the commencement of proceedings before the tribunal.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner after polling 511,067 votes.
The APC’s decision to challenge the result comes days after Oyebamiji said he had accepted the election outcome and congratulated Adeleke.
In a statement issued on August 29, Oyebamiji said he accepted the result but expressed concern over violence recorded during the election.
“While we accept the outcome of the election and congratulate the winner, we cannot forget the painful incidents of violence and the lives that were lost,” he said.
Oyebamiji added that his camp would continue to pursue “justice and fairness through lawful and constitutional means” where legitimate concerns existed.
Following his re-election, Adeleke had called on Oyebamiji and other candidates to set aside their differences and support his administration.
