Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has made his first social media post since a fatal car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close friends.
Joshua escaped with minor injuries in the incident that killed his friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, on Monday, December 29, on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The 36-year-old fighter, released from the hospital on New Year’s Eve, came back to the United Kingdom on Saturday.
He issued his first public statement since the incident in a post on his social media accounts on Sunday.
Joshua posted the picture with the families of Sina and Latz, captioning it “My Brother’s Keeper ❤️🕊️❤️.”
The picture shared on his social media accounts show the former heavyweight champion providing encouragement and unity.
Sina and Latz will be buried later on Sunday (today).
The collision happened when Joshua’s SUV, with the boxer and three passengers inside, crashed into an unmoving truck because of an alleged brake malfunction.
Joshua, who recently arrived in Nigeria for a vacation after his knockout win over Jake Paul, barely avoided death after moving from the front passenger seat to the back just before the collision, a shift motivated by his size blocking the driver’s line of sight.
He suffered a leg fracture but was noted to be in stable condition without requiring emergency medical treatment.
