A viral video of Lagos state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s response to a journalist over the autopsy result of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has drawn reactions from Nigerians.
A video sighted by Chronicle NG showed a visibly angry Sanwo-Olu at a town hall in Lagos, responding to a question from a journalist seeking justice for Mohbad’s death investigation.
The unidentified journalist expressed doubt over the outcome of the late singer’s autopsy, fearing that Mohbad might not get justice, as was the case with Dowen College’s student Sylvester Oromoni
“Sylvester Oromoni ought to be 15 years old this month, and I have been following up on that case and nothing has been done, and to me, it’s as good as dead, and because Sylvester’s case has been a slap on the wrist, that’s why Mohbad’s own came to life and I am asking who’s next.”
“Please, my governor, you have the power to preside over the affairs of Lagos State and everything; everybody reports to you.”
“Please, I am begging you take this case as if Mohbad is your son, because if it were so, everything, everybody that had contact with that man would have been brought to book one way or another.” the journalist asked
So, Gov. Sanwoolu can be this bluntly assertive but then played the gentle man when his state was almost run over in 2020? He has bn pushed to the wall for him to this deliberate in his response.
She got what she deserved. What was the gaslighting abt? What else wld the gov do? pic.twitter.com/BkMDTk3pLn— John Oyesile, MPSN (@OyesileJohn) December 17, 2023
In response, an infuriated Sanwo-Olu stated Mohbad’s case was still very much alive, and the reason for the delay is that the Police are waiting for forensic results in order to build strong cases
” There are no emotions, it’s not emotional; people get killed, we see it every day; I don’t go to bed until 5 am.
Lamenting the destruction done to the state as a result of the #EndSARS protest, the governor said, “We will do the job and do it well; Mohbad’s case is still alive; the police are here, we keep treating it, and they had to take the forensic out. The forensic that we built, which is the best in the sub-Sahara campus; it was burnt down during the EndSARS protest.
“We had to take the tests out; they’ve done all their reports. It’s until the result is back that we can link the two together. There are people in detention as we speak; they have not been released. Let’s give a little credit when it is necessary.”
Reacting to Sanwo-Olu’s response on microblogging website, X, John Oyesile posted, “So, Gov. Sanwoolu can be this bluntly assertive but then played the gentle man when his state was almost run over in 2020? He has bn pushed to the wall for him to this deliberate in his response. She got what she deserved. What was the gaslighting about? What else would the gov do?”
Another X user, Tomiwa, said, “I love how Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu replied her ! She was trying to gaslight him, imagine!”
“I love how Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu gave it back to her directly!!!!! Law isn’t about emotional sentiments….. SanwoOlu is out for all of them this second tenure. Just imagine the lady’s emotional, crafty questions, ” Pastor Okezie Atani, an APC supporter on X stated.

In Odili’s view, governor Sanwo-Olu won’t give for any emotional blackmail, “Sanwoolu was like there is no market for your shitty emotions, so don’t advertise it here They will use emotional blackmail to gaslight you as if they care, but all they want is to paint Sanwoolu’s government bad. No governor is delivering on a steady basis like Sanwoolu.” he said
However, for Hon. Rilwan, the Sanwo-Olu response was inappropriate, “What she asked doesn’t deserve such response. The governor himself turned a proper question into emotional discussion . You are the governor, and you should expect such an opinion each time a life is lost and especially a star. American still on 2pac’s murder till tomorrow . Very reckless and disgusting reaction from sanwo olu.”
Nwa Anambra condemned Sanwo-Olu’s response said, “You are solely interested in what was burnt, but 103 lives were hidden. Those that died from bullets at lekki tollgate doesn’t matter, right? I dont support the destruction of public amenities, but i believe that if you lose one of your own at tollgate, I won’t say these.”

![Odiong: US-based Nigerian Catholic priest convicted over sexual assault Rev. Fr. Anthony Odiong, a US-based Nigerian Louisiana Catholic priest, was arrested in Florida on Tuesday for possessing child pornography, according to law authorities. The suspect is reportedly accused of many other cases of sexual assault. The Waco, Texas, Police Department announced in a Facebook post on Tuesday that officers detained Father Anthony Odiong in Ave Maria, Florida, with assistance from the United States Marshals Service. Waco police announced in March that they had received "credible information" about a sexual assault allegedly committed by Odiong in Texas in 2012. “During the subsequent investigation, a case of possession of child pornography was uncovered,” the police said. The priest was apprehended in Florida by the Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force. The Waco Police Department said that he will be extradited to Texas. Odiong had previously served in the Archdiocese of New Orleans before being removed as priest in December of last year due to controversy over homilies in which he claimed, among other things, that the Catholic Church was being taken over by "the gays." At the time, the priest was also accused of abusive behaviour; a Louisiana lady claimed in U.S. bankruptcy court that Odiong had committed both financial and sexual abuse against her. Prior to joining the New Orleans Archdiocese, Odiong served in at least two Texas parishes. On Tuesday, Waco police stated that during their sexual assault investigation, "the presence of other survivors was revealed." “Multiple women have come forward to tell similar experiences as the sexual assault survivor who reported the initial allegation,” the police department said. “Survivors’ experiences ranged from sexual assault and indecent assault, more commonly recognised as groping, and financial abuse, with some survivors experiencing every element of Anthony Odiong’s manipulation.” The police said they “believe there may be more survivors, and we wish to speak with anyone who [has] had similar encounters” with the priest. The Archdiocese of New Orleans issued a brief news release on Tuesday noting Odiong's arrest in Florida. The archdiocese “encourages anyone with any information to contact law enforcement,” the release said.](https://chronicle.ng/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/ezgif-6-4730550ede-300x200.jpg)
