Lagos governor Akinwunmi Ambode has met with national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is Abuja, Nigeria’s capital to beg for forgiveness and a shot at a second term in office.

A source close to the meeting confirmed the meeting between Tinubu and Ambode but could not tell if the grievances between them were over. “Yes, the meeting held. He (Ambode) saw Asiwaju (Tinubu) in Abuja but I cannot give you any detail,” he said.

Ambode is not the only person urging Asiwaju Tinubu to let go of their differences.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and APC national  chairman, Adams Oshiomhole have met with Tinubu on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The duo prevailed on him to forgive Ambode of any wrongdoing and to allow him a second term as Lagos governor.

A source close to the meeting to Punch Newspaper that, “The National Leader, however, maintained that there would be wider consultations back home before he would be able to accede to the request. He said the governor’s matter is beyond him alone.

“It is difficult to say what happened during the second meeting with Osinbajo but it appeared the vice-president and Tinubu were able to arrive at a meeting point, which is difficult to clarify,” the source said.

Another source disclosed that some APC governors have also waded into the matter.

“Some governors have also called the national leader, pleading with him to save their ‘poster boy’ the humiliation of not getting a second term. Their fears are that such development in Lagos, which is the economic nerve centre of the country, could have negative effect on the fortunes of the party in other states.”
