    Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has reportedly died at the age of 40 after a prolonged battle with cancer.

    Ekubo was one of the prominent figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, known for his film roles, modeling career, and public influence.

    Below are key things to know about the late Nollywood star.

    Early life and background

    Ekubo was born on April 10, 1986, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State; however, he hails from Arochukwu in Abia State. He is known for his tall frame, charisma, and strong screen presence. He is fluent in English, Igbo, and Hausa.

    Education

    The late actor attended Federal Government College, Daura, for his secondary education. He studied law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL) and also obtained a degree in mass communication from Calabar Polytechnic.

    Break into the entertainment industry.

    The late actor first gained national attention in 2010 after finishing as first runner-up in the Mr. Nigeria competition. The competition launched him into modeling and acting, leading to a steady rise in Nollywood.

    Nollywood career

    Ekubo began professional acting in 2010 and has since featured in several notable Nollywood productions, including Lagos Cougars, Sugar Rush, Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons, Fate of Alakada, Weekend Getaway, In the Cupboard, Dream Walker, and Hire a Woman.

    Until his demise, he built a reputation in Nollywood as a leading man in romantic comedies and contemporary Nigerian cinema.

    Humanitarian work

    Until his demise, he was involved in social impact and humanitarian initiatives. He was listed among the Most Influential People of African Descent Top 100 Under 40 Hall of Fame and has received recognition for contributions to entertainment and charitable work.

    The late actor also received several awards over the years, including acting honors at the BEFFTA Awards, Screen Nation Awards, Best of Nollywood Awards, and international film festival recognitions.
