The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suffered a fresh setback ahead of the 2027 general elections following the resignation of its National Assistant Secretary, Hassan Muhammadu.
Muhammadu also resigned as the North-East Zonal Secretary of the party and immediately withdrew his membership.
In a letter dated September 9, 2026, addressed to the ADC Chairman in Bojude Ward, Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State, Muhammadu announced his decision to leave the party.
A copy of the letter was made available to our correspondent on Sunday.
Muhammadu resigns from ADC
The former Gombe State Commissioner for Finance said his decision followed “deep reflection”.
“It is with deep reflection and esteemed regard that I wish to withdraw my membership from the ADC and also resign my position as the National Assistant Secretary and the Zonal Secretary of the North East Zonal Working Committee of the Party.”
Muhammadu thanked the ADC and its leaders for giving him the opportunity to serve at both the national and zonal levels.
He said copies of his resignation letter had been forwarded to the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, through the North-East Zonal Chairman, Daniel Modu Bwala.
Copies were also sent to the Gombe State leadership of the party, the Party Leader in Gombe and the North-East Zonal Working Committee.
Muhammadu may join APC
Sources said Muhammadu is expected to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) and support the party’s governorship candidate, Dr Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna.
Gwamna’s camp said the move is expected to strengthen the APC’s political structure in Kwami Local Government and across Gombe Central.
The camp also described Muhammadu as a valuable political asset to the APC in the general elections, citing his status at both national and zonal levels.
