Terrorists attacked a convoy and killed five police officers who were travelling from Sokoto State to Zamfara State for a special duty assignment.
Chronicle NG gathered on Monday that the attack took place on Sunday, when the officers, who were travelling in three vehicles, were ambushed by the armed assailants.
A police officer who was among the personnel travelling with the team but managed to escape the attack confirmed the incident, stating that the gunmen suddenly opened fire on the vehicle at the rear of the convoy.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the officer said five of his colleagues were killed in the attack.
“We were travelling in three vehicles when they suddenly opened fire on the third vehicle behind us.
“Five of our members were killed in the process,” he said.
The officer explained that at the time of the incident, most of the personnel had been deployed for a special duty assignment in Zamfara State.
Videos of the incident that circulated online showed the lifeless bodies of some of the officers inside a vehicle, with their hands and legs reportedly tied with ropes.
The videos also showed the officers’ belongings scattered at the scene, while the vehicle carrying them had visible bloodstains.
Attempts to reach the spokesperson for police zone 10, ASP Abdallah Faruku, were unsuccessful, as his telephone number could not be reached when this report was filed.
