Paris St-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is set to have knee surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his team’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona on Tuesday.
Kvaratskhelia picked up the injury in a challenge with Xavi Espart and could not bear weight on his right leg when he was substituted in the 59th minute of the Champions League match.
PSG has not set a timeframe for his return to action.
In a statement on Instagram, Kvaratskhelia said, “Before every game I play I ask God to leave the field healthy, but in vain.
“I probably prepared for this game the best I have ever prepared for. I thought I was prepared for everything.
“I realize that God chose me, and if I protected the players on another field, I’m ready to go through these months of hard work, pain, and tears.
“I know I have to come back stronger for my people who always have my back. I won’t let you down, I promise; I won’t waste a second.”
Kvaratskhelia, 25, helped PSG secure back-to-back Champions League titles after joining the French club from Napoli in January 2025.
The Georgia international has made 11 appearances for PSG this season.
The club also confirmed that Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos will be out for a “few weeks.” Dembele was forced off with a left thigh injury, while Marquinhos picked up an injury to his right thigh.
PSG and Barcelona were tied at 2-2 going into the final 10 minutes at Parc des Princes before the hosts struck twice late on to keep their winning start to their Champions League defence intact. They top the table with three wins from three matches.
