Arsenal staged a superb second-half comeback to get their title defense back on track, marking their return to Premier League action with a hard-fought win over Leeds United.
After starting their reign as champions with four straight victories while conceding only one goal, the Gunners had to dwell on a humbling 3-0 defeat to Brighton during the three-week international break.
Superbly organized at the back and bold going forward, Leeds fully merited their opener when it came 10 minutes into the second half.
James Justin sent the away fans into ecstasy in a fixture where they have not celebrated a league win since May 2003, slamming the ball home from Gabriel Gudmundsson’s pull-back.
Arsenal looked flat and unsettled, but they found the quick reply they desperately needed when Riccardo Calafiori finished from close range after being set up by Ben White.
With Mikel Arteta making an immediate triple substitution, which included bringing on £75m summer signing Bruno Guimaraes, the mood at a restless Emirates Stadium was completely changed.
Guimaraes sealed the comeback eight minutes later with a composed finish from the edge of the box, capping a brilliant, flowing move by the hosts.
That left Arsenal closing the gap on leaders Manchester City, who stay top on goal difference ahead of their Sunday trip to Anfield to face Liverpool (16:30 BST).
