The Plateau State Police Command announced on Monday that seven individuals were injured in a gunshot near the Bukuru Expressway in the Jos South Local Government Area.
On Sunday, gunmen opened fire on traders as they returned from the market in the Bukuru community in Jos South Local Government Area.
The leadership condemned the attack in a statement issued on Monday, claiming that it targeted traders returning from Bukuru’s Kara Market.
The statement, signed by Alabo, partly read, “The Plateau State Police Command has received with deep concern the report of a shooting incident that occurred on 4th October, 2026, at about 04:30 pm along Bukuru Expressway, Jos South LGA.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle targeted was conveying traders returning from Kara Market, Bukuru, Jos. Seven injured victims have so far been traced to the Military Clinic, Rukuba Barracks, Jos, where they are receiving medical attention.”
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police for the Plateau State Command, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the Department of Investigations to fully take over the investigation and make certain that those responsible were tracked down and brought to face the full weight of the law.
“The Command strongly condemns this dastardly act and wishes the injured victims a quick recovery.
“Meanwhile, tactical teams and anti-robbery teams have been mobilized to beef up security around the general area while intelligence has been stepped up to identify and arrest the perpetrators,” the statement added.
The command urged residents of the state to carry on with their lawful activities and to report any suspicious activity to the police via the Control Room emergency numbers: 07059473022 and 08038907662.
