Residents of the Pankshin community in the Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State were gripped by fear on Tuesday after a man was discovered dead behind the Monday Market in the area.
The discovery, made in the early hours of Tuesday, threw the community into confusion when residents noticed that certain parts of the deceased’s body had been severed.
Some residents who confirmed the incident to the press in Jos on Tuesday said the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding his death were still unknown.
A resident, Johnson Dawul, said, “We woke up this morning to see the corpse lying behind the Monday Market. It was a shocking sight. What is even more disturbing is that some parts of his body, including his penis, were cut off by those who killed him.”
Another resident, who also confirmed the incident, said, “Nobody knows who the man is and nobody knows what happened to him. When we saw the body, we immediately alerted security personnel, who arrived in a police vehicle and evacuated the corpse.”
It was gathered that security personnel removed the body of the deceased, while an investigation was initiated to uncover the events surrounding his death and to identify those accountable.
At the time of filing this report, the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, had not yet replied to inquiries regarding the incident when he was contacted.
