The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed its intention to set up a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination center in Ottawa, Canada, where Nigerians residing there and in other parts of North America will be able to take the examination starting in 2027.
The board made this known in a post on its official social media platforms after its registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, paid a visit to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.
JAMB stated that the planned centre would give eligible Nigerians in Canada and other parts of North America easier access to the UTME, especially those looking to gain admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
“The proposed center will make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination,” the board said.
JAMB described the initiative as part of its efforts towards “taking Nigerian tertiary education to the world.”
It stated that the center would also “strengthen the connection between Nigerians abroad and the Nigerian education system.”
According to JAMB, the initiative would create “greater opportunities to showcase Nigerian tertiary education internationally.”
JAMB stated that the Ottawa centre would make the UTME more accessible to Nigerians residing in Canada.
“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” it said.
The board further stated that it was “working towards establishing a UTME examination center in Ottawa, Canada, expected to commence operations in 2027.”
It noted that the center would give eligible Nigerians in Canada and throughout North America simpler access to the examination, especially those aiming to pursue tertiary education in Nigeria.
JAMB characterized the proposed center as “a bigger opportunity to strengthen the connection between Nigerians in the diaspora and Nigerian tertiary education.”
It further stated that the initiative would offer “more access” and lower obstacles for Nigerians abroad seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
