The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Tuesday hold a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference to mark 100 days to the 2027 general elections, with the commission expected to provide updates on its preparations for the polls.
According to a statement from the commission, the event will concentrate on crucial topics such as the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics, and the steps being taken to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
The meeting, set to take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, will feature remarks from the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, along with other stakeholders engaged in the electoral process.
INEC stated that the engagement was meant to give Nigerians and key players in the electoral process an update on its readiness as the 2027 elections enter the final 100-day stretch.
“The Commission will provide updates on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics, and critical measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process,” the statement said.
The commission stated that the national stakeholders’ meeting was also intended to enhance engagement with institutions and groups whose activities are essential to the conduct and security of the elections.
“The national stakeholders’ meeting underlines the Commission’s commitment to absolute transparency, proactive public communication, and collaborative engagement with key actors in the electoral ecosystem,” it said.
Among those anticipated at the meeting are political party leaders, security agencies taking part in the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organizations, and election observer groups.
Advocates for disability rights, religious and traditional leaders, youth organizations, and media executives are likewise expected to take part.
The meeting is taking place as preparations for the 2027 general elections move into a critical stage, with INEC tasked with finalizing logistical, administrative, and technological arrangements before the polls.
In the statement, the commission did not say whether any particular changes to the electoral timetable would be announced at the meeting but noted that its chairman would speak to the gathering together with other key stakeholders.
The event is set for 10am on Tuesday, October 6, and guests are expected to be seated by then.
INEC stated that the proceedings would be carried live on major national television networks and streamed via its official social media platforms, giving the public broader access to the discussions.
The commission also said attendance at the venue would be strictly by invitation and that accredited journalists and invited guests would have to show their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
