The wife and three children of a former Niger state commissioner of education, Abubakar Daja, died in a road crash that occurred on Sunday involving a Sienna and a Mazda.
Daja, from the Mashegu Local Government Area, died in 2025. He served as education commissioner upon the country’s return to democracy in 1999. He served two terms that ended in 2007.
The late Hajia Daja and her four children were traveling in the Mazda from Minna to Mokwa-Bida Road when the tragedy occurred.
The wife of the former Niger commissioner, and three of her children died on the spot, leaving her teenage daughter as the only surviving passenger in the automobile. She was believed to have received serious injuries, such as a broken rib and shoulder.
Salihu Abubakar, an eyewitness from Mokwa Local Government Area, informed our correspondent that he did not believe the late Hajia Daja’s daughter, who was unconscious and had sustained terrible injuries, would live.
Chronicle NG gathered that two people died in the Sienna, making a total of nine deaths in the road crash.
Saadu, who confirmed the accident on Sunday night, disclosed that the accident involved 18 passengers.
“As at the time of rescue, 18 people were involved: seven injured, seven killed, and four not injured.
“The crash occurred around 11:30am. Along Kutigi-Bida Road at Shebe Village,” she said in a WhatsApp message.
