No fewer than seven persons were killed and two others injured in a multiple road accident involving three vehicles around Kara on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector Command, announced this in a statement signed by Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi.
The accident occurred about 12:03 a.m. and involved a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC truck, a white MACK trailer, and a Mitsubishi Canter with registration number JJJ920YA. All nine victims were male.
The FRSC stated its Ibafo Outpost Command received the call about 12:04 a.m. and arrived on the site five minutes later, around 12:09 a.m.
The statement read in part, “Preliminary information indicates that nine persons, all male, were involved in the crash. Sadly, seven persons were killed, while two persons sustained injuries.”
The corps classed the occurrence as a deadly multiple road traffic accident, with a speed violation indicated as the likely cause, subject to further investigation.
The Ogun State Ambulance Service evacuated the deceased victims from the area, while the injured were transferred to hospital facilities.
The FRSC stated that the crashed vehicles were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force’s Motor Traffic Division at Ibafo for further action.
Ogunjobi also warned motorists to be cautious when driving at night, stating that limited visibility and drowsiness may increase the danger of a crash.
He said, “Motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, should avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances, and remain vigilant at all times.”

The sector commander expressed sympathy for the relatives of the deceased and wished the injured victims a swift recovery.
