The Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Apostle Kassy Chukwu, has stated that Davido should not expect to perform in the state for the balance of the governor’s tenure, citing the continuing controversy between the musician and the governor.
Chukwu made the announcement in a YouTube video posted by Peniel TV International in Benin City, Nigeria, on Thursday.
The aide’s comments came after Davido refused to apologize for remarks he made about Okpebholo after the governor criticized Davido’s uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in the run-up to the August 15 governorship election.
Davido had previously released what seemed to be Okpebholo’s WAEC results on his Instagram story but later defended the video in an interview, claiming he had no reason to apologize.
In response, Chukwu stated that Davido had been barred from performing in Edo State for the remainder of Okpebholo’s government.
“You have been banned from coming to Edo State to perform. We don’t want to see you in Edo again,” he said.
He accused Davido of making derogatory remarks about the governor and his family and stated that the musician would be barred from visiting the state for the remainder of the administration’s term.
Chukwu further stated that numerous Edo teenagers were outraged by Davido’s words and warned that if the musician came to the state, he would encounter a harsh reception, especially at the airport.
“Edo youths are angry. They said if they catch you again, nobody should bring Davido to come and perform in any place again in Edo State,” he said.
The assistant went on to criticize Davido’s previous social media post about Okpebholo’s academic record, claiming that the document had been falsified, and warned the singer not to make similar statements in the future.
The development comes after a public spat between Davido and Okpebholo that erupted during the Osun governorship race.
Okpebholo had criticized Adeleke’s dancing and questioned his actions as governor, forcing Davido to retaliate by publishing the alleged WAEC results.
Davido later refused to apologize, claiming that he had just presented Osun locals the academic record of a governor who had come to the state to campaign against his uncle.
The artist also criticized Okpebholo for leaving Edo to run in the Osun election, questioning his electoral mandate.
The governor’s aide’s latest remarks have sparked emotions online, with a video circulating amid the ongoing feud between the artist and the Edo governor.
