Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, has stated that he has not had sexual contact with any woman other than his wife, Sherifat, since they married.
According to Tribune Online, Aregbesola made the declaration on Monday while speaking at an ADC campaign rally in Osun State’s Ejigbo Local Government Area ahead of the governorship election on August 15.
Speaking in Yoruba, the former Osun State governor said that his devotion to his wife was part of a personal pledge he made to God.
He reminded supporters that, while such a claim may be difficult for many men to make, he had remained faithful to his wife because of his love for God.
Aregbesola said, “Oh Lord my God, if you are the one I am serving, and I did not add any other thing to it,. What I am about to say, only a few men can say it: Because of your fear, I never had any intimacy with another woman since I married my wife.”
He added, “I told God that next June, we must do it at the Government House.”
The announcement came as political parties stepped up their campaigns across Osun ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The poll will feature incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, who is seeking a second term, as well as the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and Aregbesola’s ADC candidate, Najeem Folasayo Salaam.
The election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, across the state’s 30 local government units.
