Barcelona have agreed a deal worth over £69m with Newcastle United for England forward Anthony Gordon.
BBC Sport reports that the clubs were in advanced talks as they looked to agree a fee.
These were considered good, and an agreement for more than 80 million euros (£69.3 million) had been concluded.
Gordon will now settle the details of his move before flying to the United States with his England teammates for a pre-World Cup training camp.
Bayern Munich also held formal conversations with Newcastle, but there was a valuation discrepancy between the two clubs, and Barcelona ultimately made an acceptable bid.
In March, Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson stated unequivocally that the club would only sell players on “our terms.”
The club was in a solid position to demand a premium for Gordon, whose contract does not expire until 2030.
Newcastle need to trade to rebuild this summer, especially after finishing 12th in the Premier League.
Despite Everton’s sell-on clause, this deal will allow the Magpies to reinvest in the transfer market.
Everton are set to receive 15% of any profit Newcastle make on Gordon after selling the academy graduate for up to £45 million in 2023.
Gordon was always considered the most likely of Newcastle’s important players to go, and the club’s leading scorer was even benched for the final four games of the season because head coach Eddie Howe was focused on the future.
Following the final day’s 2-0 defeat against Fulham, fans in the away end momentarily sang Gordon’s name as a farewell.
