Italy legend Andrea Pirlo has agreed to become the new head coach of the Italy national team after accepting a long-term project presented by the Italian Football Federation.
The former Italy midfielder has agreed verbally and is expected to sign his contract in the coming days once the remaining formalities are completed.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on X, “Andrea Pirlo accepts the verbal proposal, and he’s set to become the new Italy head coach; here we go! Pirlo said yes to the long-term project presented by Paolo Maldini and Leonardo.
“He’s set to sign in the upcoming days, waiting for formal steps.”
His appointment follows discussions with senior football figures, including Paulo Maldini and Leonardo, who outlined the vision for the national team and secured his commitment to lead the project.
As Italy seeks to rebuild and contend for significant international honors, the former midfielder for AC Milan and Juventus is expected to lead the Azzurri in the long run.
Throughout his illustrious playing career, Pirlo starred for AC Milan and Juventus and helped Italy win the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Later, he became a coach, leading Juventus to the 2020–21 Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana championships.
Once the last paperwork is finished and his contract is signed, an official announcement is anticipated.
