The Nigerian Association of Social and Resourceful Editors (NASRE) has warned singer Peter Okoye over an alleged threat against journalist Bayo Adetu, urging him to retract the statement and issue a public apology.

In a Monday statement, NASRE, led by Comrade Femi Oyewale, expressed concern over an incident said to have occurred at the Ikoyi High Court during proceedings in the ongoing dispute involving P-Square and their elder brother, Jude Okoye.

According to the association, eyewitnesses claimed that Peter Okoye drew the court’s attention to Adetu’s presence, noting his past role as P-Square’s publicist. The remark reportedly stirred reactions in the courtroom presided over by Justice Alexander Owoeye.

NASRE further alleged that after the session, the singer confronted Adetu and said, “You, Bayo, I will set you up.”

The group described the alleged statement as inappropriate and a threat to press freedom, stressing that intimidation of journalists carrying out lawful duties is unacceptable.

“Any language suggesting harm or intimidation directed at a journalist raises serious concerns about safety and professional ethics,” the statement read.

NASRE warned that Peter Okoye would be held responsible if any harm comes to Adetu or his family. The association also said it is prepared to explore legal and media channels to protect its members.

The organisation called on the singer to retract the statement and apologise publicly, while urging all parties in the legal dispute to act with restraint and respect for the rule of law.

NASRE reaffirmed that the safety of journalists remains a priority and insisted that the media will not be silenced.
