Jido Ahmed, a police officer, and another man robbed and killed Jibrin Inuwa, a fuel attendant in Niger State, for resisting robbery.

The incident occurred on Wednesday in Kontagora Local Government Area, when two criminals entered a petrol station on a motorcycle without a mask. They originally pretended to be consumers and even bought fuel.

An eyewitness stated that when the thieves entered the gas station, one of them was dressed in a Mobile Police outfit and posed as a customer until they pulled out their firearms.

“Shortly after, they pulled out their guns and started threatening to shoot everybody if the fuel attendant did not cooperate. While the attendant was hesitating to give them money, one of the robbers shot him in the chest, and he fell down. They took some money before fleeing.

“The fuel attendant, 20-year-old Jibrin Inuwa of Garun Mallam, was rushed to a hospital where he was confirmed dead.”

A security source, who identified himself as Aliyu, told the press that the police responded to a distress call about the heist and pursued the criminals, shooting one of the suspects in the leg.

“When the attendant identified as 20-year-old Jibrin Inuwa of Garun Mallam resisted, one of the suspects shot him in the chest and fled with an undisclosed sum of money.

“The victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where he was confirmed dead, and his body was later released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites.

“Police patrol teams from ‘A’ Division, Kontagora, led by the Divisional Police Officer, trailed the suspects to the Dadinkowa area behind a vigilante office, where they engaged in an exchange of gunfire.

“The confrontation led to the arrest of one of the suspects after he was shot in the leg, disarmed, and arrested.

“The suspect was later identified as a serving mobile police officer, Inspector Jido Ahmed, attached to 61 PMF Kontagora but currently on special duty in Agwara LGA.

“He was taken to the General Hospital, Kontagora, and later referred to the Police Clinic in Minna for treatment. An AK-47 rifle with number 38262 and 12 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition were recovered from him,” the security source said.

Wasiu Abiodun, spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, confirmed the event in a WhatsApp message on Friday, saying an investigation was underway and efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect had been stepped up.

“On April 12, 2026, at 2.40pm, a distress call received indicated that two armed robbers attacked a filling station behind BCG Motor Park in Kontagora. It was reported that the two suspected robbers used a motorcycle, went to the filling station, robbed an attendant, and shot the victim in the chest.

“The police patrol team of A Division, Kontagora, mobilized to the scene, pursued the robbers to the Dadin-Kowa area of Kontagora, and engaged in a gun duel. Fortunately, one of the robbers was shot in the leg, disarmed, and later identified as one Inspector Jido Ahmed attached to 61 PMF Kontagora.

“He was taken to a general hospital in Kontagora for medical attention and later transferred to Police Clinic Minna, but he was later confirmed dead at about 1am on Friday.

“Further investigation into the unfortunate incident is ongoing, and effort to arrest the fleeing suspect is intensified,” Abiodun said.
