Former Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang, has alleged that persistent killings in the state are being orchestrated to sabotage future elections.
Jang made the claim during an interactive session with President Bola Tinubu in Jos, amid renewed concerns over insecurity in the state.
According to the former governor, the pattern of violence in Plateau is not new, noting that successive administrations have faced similar challenges.
“These killings have been here for a long time. I went through it, Dariye went through it, Lalong went through it,” he said.
Jang warned that certain actors are attempting to exploit the violence for political advantage ahead of upcoming elections, but insisted such efforts would not succeed.
“Mr President, I can authoritatively tell you that some people want to use these killings to sabotage next elections but we won’t allow them,” he added.
His remarks come as stakeholders continue to debate the root causes of the recurring attacks in Plateau State, which have claimed several lives in recent weeks.
Tinubu had earlier assured residents of decisive action to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed in the region.
The latest comments by Jang add a political dimension to the ongoing security crisis, raising fresh concerns about the potential impact of violence on Nigeria’s democratic process.
