Robert Duvall, the US actor best known for his roles in The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, has passed away at the age of 95.

Luciana Duvall, his wife, announced his death in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Monday.

Sharing a photo of herself and Robert, she disclosed that he “passed away peacefully” at home on Sunday.

She also praised his dedication to his craft and expressed appreciation to those who supported him throughout his career.

“Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home. To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller,” she wrote.

“To me, he was simply everything. His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for his characters, a great meal, and holding court. In each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented.

“In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable for us all. Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind.”

Robert was an acclaimed actor, director, and producer whose career spanned more than six decades.

A graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York, Duvall trained alongside contemporaries such as Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman.

He began with stage and television roles in the late 1950s before gaining widespread attention for his film debut as Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird.

Duvall earned global recognition for his role as Tom Hagen in The Godfather and its sequel. He later won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as country singer Mac Sledge in Tender Mercies.

Other notable films in his extensive filmography include Apocalypse Now, The Great Santini, and Lonesome Dove.
