Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra State, says the state is one of the safest in Nigeria following sustained collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups.
NAN reports that Soludo spoke in Abuja on Wednesday shortly after meeting President Bola Tinubu at the State House.
The governor noted that Tinubu’s message on tackling insecurity nationwide at the just-concluded National Economic Council (NEC) conference was emphatic and reassuring.
“The president’s message was emphatic, and we’re quite excited to listen to the president and his determination to stamp out insecurity nationwide,” he said.
Soludo said the protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of government at all levels.
He added that tackling insecurity requires coordinated efforts among the federal government, states, local councils, and communities.
He commended the security agencies for their contributions, while also praising Anambra’s internal security framework, including the state vigilante group.
“And we’re not resting, not for one second,” he said.
Soludo said criminals held the South-East hostage for over five years with Monday sit-at-home orders, disrupting education, commerce, and markets such as Onitsha.
He added that traders have returned and pledged to regenerate the market as a premier West African commercial hub.
This comes barely a week after the Anambra State government announced the reopening of Onitsha Main Market for full commercial and economic activities following a one-week closure.
