The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has explained the cause of the ongoing network outages affecting telecommunications subscribers across Abuja, pointing to a disruption in diesel supply.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the NCC spokesperson, Nnenna Ukoha, said the service challenges were largely linked to diesel supply issues impacting IHS Nigeria Limited, a key colocation company that powers base stations for major operators, including MTN and Airtel.

According to the commission, the disruption followed actions by the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which led to interrupted diesel deliveries to telecom sites, triggering widespread service outages in the Federal Capital Territory.

Ukoha stressed that reliable power supply is critical to the delivery of quality telecommunications services, noting that the NCC is working closely with stakeholders and licensees to resolve the situation.

“The NCC is committed to ensuring seamless communication services for all Nigerians and recognises the importance of stable power for optimal telecom operations,” she said.

The commission added that it is actively engaging relevant parties to address the diesel supply bottlenecks and explore more sustainable solutions to prevent a recurrence. It also urged all stakeholders to cooperate in swiftly resolving the issue, warning that continued disruptions threaten critical telecommunications infrastructure.

Ukoha further revealed that the NCC is facilitating dialogue between service providers and other key players to restore full network services as quickly as possible.

She thanked Abuja subscribers for their patience and understanding, reassuring them that efforts are ongoing to fully stabilise telecommunications services across the city.
