Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has been named the Gentlemen Quarterly Sportsman of the Year in Turkey.

The 26-year-old forward was honored with the accolade at a formal event in Istanbul on Wednesday.

The award, held each year by the Turkish version of GQ Magazine, a prominent global men’s fashion and lifestyle magazine, honors exceptional individuals in diverse areas, such as sports, music, and cinema.

Since joining, the 26-year-old has become a cherished icon among Galatasaray fans, significantly contributing to the club’s success in domestic competitions.

In his first season, Osimhen received recognition for his outstanding performances at Galatasaray, netting 37 goals and registering seven assists in 41 matches, aiding the team in winning both the Super Lig and Turkish Cup titles.

His performances led Galatasaray to set a new Turkish transfer record of €75 million to acquire him permanently from Napoli.

Although hindered by injuries this season, Osimhen has maintained his remarkable performance, scoring 11 goals in 14 matches in all competitions.

For Nigeria, the forward has continued to be a key player for the Super Eagles, despite the letdown of not qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Following a four-match absence in the qualifiers, Osimhen made a comeback, scoring six goals in five games and aiding the team in reaching the playoffs.

He continued to impress in the knockout stage, scoring twice against Gabon in the semi-finals. However, an untimely injury prevented him from competing in the important final against DR Congo, when Nigeria’s World Cup aspirations were destroyed after a penalty shootout loss.

Osimhen is anticipated to headline the Super Eagles’ attack as they seek a fourth continental crown at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which runs from December 21 to January 18, 2026.

During his acceptance speech, Osimhen thanked the organizers, the club, and the supporters for the award.

“I want to say a big thank you to GQ. Can’t forget my Galatasaray family. This means so much to my family and me. I appreciate everyone who has supported me up to this hour.

“I will continue to do my best for my family, for Galatasaray, and for the fans all over the world,” he said.

Other well-known figures were honored at the event. Aras Aydın, a Turkish actor, was awarded International Achiever of the Year, while Sinem Ünsal earned the Woman of the Year honor.

Edis, a British-Turkish singer-songwriter, won Music Person of the Year, and Bahtiyar Büyükduman was named Chef of the Year.

During the occasion, 11 other prizes were given out, recognizing achievements in a variety of businesses around Turkey.
