Billionaire business mogul and chairman of the Ibru Organisation, Olorogun Oskar Ibru, has died at the age of 67.
According to a statement released by his family and carried by Arise News on Wednesday, Oskar Ibru died following a brief illness.
Further information about his demise was not revealed.
Ibru was an important player in Nigeria’s corporate sector and one of the most notable successors to the Ibru dynasty.
He helped to sustain and extend the conglomerate founded by his late father, Olorogun Michael Ibru, whose commercial empire included shipping, oil and gas, real estate, and commerce.
His demise comes less than a decade after that of the family patriarch, Michael Ibru, in 2016.
Funeral arrangements are likely to be announced shortly.
Dele Momodu, media entrepreneur and editor of Ovation International, responded to the news on Wednesday, calling Ibru “an extremely friendly gentleman and a socialite par excellence.”
In a statement on his Instagram page, Momodu wrote, “News has just reached me in the skies that one of Nigeria’s most recognizable businessmen, Olorugun Oskar Ibru, has passed on.
‘He was an extremely friendly gentleman and a socialite par excellence, who was loved so passionately by families and friend. He was the son of the business titan, Olorugun Micheal Ibru. Rest in peace, dear Brother.”
