The Osun State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a lady named Bidemi Omole in Esa-Oke town, Osun State, at the home of her boyfriend, Yinka.

According to sources in the town, Bidemi suddenly became ill after arriving at her boyfriend’s residence on Friday evening and died shortly thereafter.

The incident, which occurred around 9:30 p.m., reportedly caused panic in the community, with many residents reportedly rushing to the suspect’s house in the Oke Esa Area as soon as word of the death spread.

Taye, a resident of the neighbourhood where the incident occurred, stated that the dead died shortly after arriving at her boyfriend’s house.

She added, “We heard the cry for help, and we all ran towards Yinka’s house. Before I arrived at the scene, many people were already there. I saw some security officers, but the crowd was overwhelming, and it was already late.

“The deceased was believed to be heading for a vigil as of the time the death occurred. She usually attends a vigil on Fridays. The police have arrested the boyfriend. He is with them already.”

When contacted on Sunday, Abiodun Ojelabi, Public Relations Officer for the Osun Police Command, verified the event.

According to Ojelabi, the situation was reported to the police on Saturday, and the deceased’s boyfriend has been arrested.

He assured the public that a thorough inquiry will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

“The death occurred on Friday. The deceased, Bidemi Omole, went to her boyfriend’s house, also located in Esa Oke. The boyfriend is identified as Yinka. From what the boyfriend told us, the deceased took ill after arriving in the house and started vomiting.

“She was rushed to a hospital, but on the way, she gave up the ghost. The suspect is already in police custody. An autopsy will be conducted to unravel the cause of the death,” Ojelabi said.
