Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has approved the composition of the party’s National Campaign Council and Presidential Campaign Management Committee ahead of the 2027 elections.
The campaign described the structure as lean and strategically organised, with responsibilities spread across six major directorates.
The appointments were announced in a statement on Thursday by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council.
Shaibu said the structure was designed to reflect the economic realities facing Nigerians.
“At a time when families are being compelled to do more with less, the campaign must demonstrate the same discipline, prudence and sensitivity it seeks to bring to government.”
He added that the campaign would not be built around titles, privileges and political patronage, but would focus on competence, accountability, national inclusion and measurable results.
El-Rufai, Akobundu take key roles
Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, a political organiser and administrator, will chair the National Campaign Council, while former Kaduna State Governor and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir El-Rufai, will serve as Deputy Chairman.
El-Rufai is expected to handle high-level political coordination and stakeholder engagement across the country.
Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central, was appointed Director-General and Campaign Manager.
A retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army and former Minister of State for Defence, Akobundu will oversee the day-to-day coordination of the campaign and implementation of its strategy.
The campaign structure comprises six major directorates, each headed by a Deputy Director-General, with directors assigned specific responsibilities.
According to the campaign, the arrangement is intended to reduce duplication and bureaucracy while ensuring accountability.
Momodu, Melaye assigned key roles
Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu will head the Media and Communications Directorate as Deputy Director-General.
He will oversee the campaign’s media operations across traditional, broadcast and digital platforms.
Former senator Dino Melaye is also part of the structure and will contribute to national outreach, mobilisation and public engagement.
The policy team will be coordinated by economist, banker and public policy practitioner Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who will work with Professor Mohammed Sagagi and Aare Aremijoye.
The campaign statement also listed Professor Kingsley Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, as part of the policy team.
However, Moghalu subsequently said he was neither consulted nor gave consent for his name to be included in the team.
Oyegun chairs advisory council
Former Edo State Governor and pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Oyegun, will chair the Campaign Advisory Council.
Former Senator Ben Obi and Lawal Batagarawa will serve as Deputy Chairmen, while Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, will serve as Secretary.
The campaign said its focus would include issues such as food, transportation and energy costs, unemployment, insecurity, declining purchasing power and effective governance.
The ADC campaign council comes as Atiku and the party begin preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
