The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum says Nigerians are ready to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, accusing the ruling party of worsening hardship across the country.
In a communiqué issued after their meeting in Gusau, Zamfara state, the governors pledged to “rescue Nigerians” from what they described as the APC’s divisive governance and failed policies.
Despite recent defections, the forum insisted the PDP remains the strongest opposition force with deep grassroots support and growing public appeal. The governors alleged that recent by-elections were marred by military intimidation, vote buying, irregularities and violence, but praised PDP supporters for their loyalty in the face of what they called “anti-democratic actions” by the APC-led government.
They urged members to remain steadfast ahead of the party’s national convention in November, warning against attempts by “anti-party forces” to derail the process.
“The PDP remains the only viable alternative capable of restoring affordable living, security, and democratic values,” the communiqué stated.
On insecurity, the governors condemned ongoing killings in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, Benue and other states, demanding urgent action from the federal government to protect lives and property.
The meeting was attended by Governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun).
